Kerry Katona wasn’t always a well-known celebrity making fortunes from her pop career and reality television appearances.
Before the mum-of-four was a part of the chart-topping girl band, Atomic Kitten, she was struggling to afford the essential everyday items.
At one point, Kerry, 38, was so broke that she had to sell one of her beloved pets just so she could buy some Tampax.
Writing in her column for new! magazine, Kerry said: “Last week Matt LeBlanc admitted he was so poor before he got the part of Joey in Friends, he couldn’t afford to go to the dentist – and that he filed his own teeth!
“Now, I’m not one to steal his thunder, but I’ve got a tale of my own from a time I was dirt poor.
“When I was a teenager, I started my period, but couldn’t afford tampons.”
She continued: “At the time I had an African parrot called Alfie and I sold him for £50 to Slippery Sid, who lived round the corner.
“I got my Tampax, but never did hear what became of poor old Alf!”
Kerry’s dark days are well behind her now and she’s in such a better place she’s able to dish advice out to todays younger stars.
The pop star had some wise words for Jack Fincham after the Love Island winner admitted to taking cocaine.
Kerry said: “I started doing cocaine before I was famous and continued for a lot of ym adult life, so I’m in a good position to understand…
“As someone who’s been there, I urge Dani Dyer to stick with Jack.”
