The Inbetweeners: James Buckley has defended the reunion show Fwends Reunited [Channel 4]

James Buckley has defended The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited one-off special after fan backlash to the episode.

On Tuesday evening Channel 4 reunited cast members Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, Blake Harrison and James Buckley to mark 10 years of the comedy but viewers who were expecting a brand new episode were left disappointed.

Now, James Buckley has taken to social media to defend the show, and apologise to fans who felt “let down” by the quiz show and review-style format.

James told his 389,000 Twitter followers: “Feeling pretty hated right now. I’m sorry to anyone who feels let down with last nights show. I’m especially upset as it really is the fans that made The Inbetweeners a success, it certainly wasnt me.”

“I might do an explanation video on my YT, or might just leave it and move on #sorry,” he added.

His comments come after fans slammed the one-off special, with many blaming host Jimmy Carr, as some suggested that Greg Davies, who starred as Mr Gilbert in the series, should have presented instead.

Taking to Twitter, one posted: “When you look forward to #theinbetweeners Special, only to realise it’s being presented by Jimmy Carr.”

While another fumed: “10 years and we get a f***ing panel interview. F**k off channel 4… And Jimmy Carr, really!? F**k sake, disappointing start to 2019 #FwendsReunited.”

“#FwendsReunited Jimmy Carr ruined it. The awards idea was embarassing. Turned it off,” added a third.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Emily Atack, who played Charlotte Hinchcliffe on the show, recently admitted she was meant to be involved with the episode but was axed from the plans just before filming commenced.

While she has no hard feelings towards the show for the decision, Emily confessed she was “looking forward to doing it”, telling Capital FM: “I don’t really know what happened. I was booked to do it, very much looking forward to doing it, and then it was kind of the day before I was told I was no longer needed for it.

“It’s alright. These things do happen and I think they just decided to go a different route. Or it was to do with production timings.”
