Dalton Harris’ mum has spoken out on her distress after claims surfaced that she had abused her son.
In response to the allegations, Dalton’s mother, Sylvia Campbell gave an interview to Loop Jamaica.
The talent show winner’s mum said: “I made sure all of them attended school straight through. Nobody can look at my children and say, ‘Jesus, dem look awful’. I tried my best. I am sorry that I hurt him that much [emotionally], but me just don’t understand this.”
She continued: “Yes, (as a child) I beat him when he was rude, but it was more scolding than anything else. I scold him out outta love because growing up, he was very troublesome.
“When he went on the X Factor and said that my eldest daughter was like a mother to him, it made me look like a careless mother. It mek people ask: ‘What kinda careless mother she is for Dalton’s oldest sister to have to be there for him like a mother?”
The allegations arose after talent show winner, Dalton, 24, previously told The Mirror that he was raised in poverty and covered in scars – but never revealed the names of his abusers.
Dalton said: “My childhood had no love or support. Applause means, finally, I have value.”
Louis Tomlinson’s mentee added: “I was told that I should walk into the road and kill myself.”
The latest revelations come as Dalton is going to be forced to leave the UK after his visa is set to expire.
The singer would have been on top of the world upon hearing had won the ITV show but now it seems the star’s future in the UK is uncertain.
Speaking to The Sun, Dalton said: “I need to get a new visa. I will have to leave the UK for a bit as you’re not allowed to just stay forever.
He added: “Hopefully my visa will be sorted out quickly.”
