Stars from the The Apprentice, Hollyoaks and Strictly Come Dancing gathered on Friday night at the Houses of Parliament to support the Imperium Investments event for St George’s Hospital children’s charity.
Celebrities such as Lee Ryan, Stephanie Waring and the Apprentice’s Dan Elahi mingled with young people with cancer as well as politicians and hospital staff.
The event, to showcase the new device called the Buzzy to help children’s treatment be pain-free with needles, uniquely bought the reality TV world and politics together.
Apprentice stars Kurran Pooni and Dan Elahi joked about together through the night but spoke seriously when it came to the charity.
Kurran explained that just a few months ago whilst filming the top show, he lost his best friend to cancer.
Kurran said: “It was just after Notting Hill Carnival this year that my best friend died of cancer. He fought with much dignity and total bravery.
“What I noticed about him during his treatment is that he seemed to become wise beyond his 22 years because of what he’d been through and was continuing to go through.
“He taught me to appreciate every second, even when he was going through chemo. He had such a wonderful outlook on life despite everything. He wanted everyone to live life to the max.
“It’s propelled me to really do that – because I know it’s what he would have wanted for me.”
Dan Elahi, still in the Apprentice final candidates opened up about his own family experience with cancer.
“My auntie died a few years ago from cancer and left three children, my little cousins.
“Without a doubt, the kids have been deeply affected. Kids should be able to be kids, without a care in the world so anything charities can do to help ease the pain a little counts for a lot, whether it’s a short moment or a day.
“It makes you realise how lucky we all are to be living healthy lives.”
Speaking about The Apprentice, he said: “I can’t tell you what’s going to happen but needless to say, viewers are going to be on the edges of their seats.
“As well as business, part of my plan for next year is to do more TV. I’m aiming to be in the I’m A Celebrity jungle this time next year, I think I’d smash it.”
