The woman whose car hit and killed actress Ruthie Ann Miles’ daughter has died by suspected suicide, it has been confirmed.
Dorothy Bruns, 44, killed two children in March when her car allegedly hit pedestrians in Brooklyn, New York.
Ruthie Ann’s four year old daughter, Abigail Blumenstein, was killed as well as one year old Joshua Lew.
Broadway actress Ruthie Ann, who was seven months pregnant at the time, and Joshua’s mother were both injured.
It was later announced that Ruthie Ann — most notable for playing Lady Thiang in the Broadway revival of The King and I — lost the child that she was expecting with her husband Jonathan Blumenstein.
NYPD has confirmed to OK! online: “On Monday, November 5, 2018 at approximately 1657 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an unconscious female. Upon arrival, officers observed a 44-year-old female, unconscious and unresponsive, with no obvious signs of trauma observed. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the female deceased. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.”
NYPD continued to confirm that the identity of the deceased was that of Dorothy Bruns.
A police source told People that she died of an overdose with a note “expressing [her] desire to no longer live” being found.
In May, a grand jury indicted Bruns and she was arraigned on charges of manslaughter, criminally negligence homicide and assault.
Sources previously told People that Dorothy claimed to have had a seizure at the time of the crash.
Shortly after the crash, a source told the publication: “Abigail was excited to be a big sister. She was the brightest little spirit. Every time you were around her, your heart couldn’t help but shine.
“She had the sweetest laugh and the loveliest personality. She was very much like her mother.”
